 Hand Grenade Hand grenades
Hand grenades include more than casualty-producing instruments of war. They are used to signal, screen, and control crowds. Hand grenades give the soldier the ability to kill enemy soldiers, destroy enemy equipment, give signals, and control riots. Historically, the most important hand grenade is the fragmentation grenade. Hand grenades are used extensively during combat in urban areas.
Fragmentation grenades are used to eliminate enemy personnel or barricades. Grenades can be thrown a long distance, and the resulting explosion releases dangerous shrapnel, wounding or killing enemies or friendlies nearby. Fragmentation grenades, contain an explosive charge in a metal body, designed to break into fragments upon the charge exploding.

Smoke grenades are used for obscuration and signaling. Smoke grenades are often shaped like a soda can, weigh 14 oz, have a 2 to 3 second fuse delay, and an effective radius of 30 yards. They generally emit a far larger amount of smoke than smoke bombs that are sold as fireworks, and will start to smoke when tossed. They are used as ground-to-ground or ground-to-air signaling devices, target or landing zone marking devices, and screening devices for unit movement.
Smoke grenades have many applications from Paintball to Military or Law enforcement training. Smoke grenades generally emit a far larger amount of smoke than smoke bombs that are sold as fireworks.
